10 min on social media, 10,000 lives

10 minutes on social media could mean 10,000 lives!

The deadly pitch, part 2

Mobile data plans:

💀

1 GB of data is equivalent to 3 kg of CO2 (or 1 MB to 3 g of CO2): using an entire 80 GB monthly plan would therefore generate approximately 3 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year! (Source:

💀

The grim equivalent (one life lost per 4,400 tonnes of CO2): a neighbourhood of 1,000 people using 80 GB per month would cause one death every year and a half (source reminder: https://www.futura-sciences.com/sante/actualites/vie-tonnes-carbone-faut-il-tuer-personne-81616/)

Please do not use up your entire data allowance!

Social networking:

💀

If one minute of VoIP or social media such as TikTok uses 1 MB, each daily minute of networking produces 1 kg of CO2 per year. Across France's 50 million users, that would mean 500,000 tonnes of CO2 per year for 10 minutes of networking a day. (Source: https://fr.statista.com/infographie/24240/empreinte-carbone-reseaux-sociaux-applications-emission-co2/).

💀

The grim equivalent would be more than 100 lives saved annually nationwide by cutting back by 10 minutes a day.

💀

Worldwide, that would be 100 times as much, or more than 10,000 lives saved by cutting 10 minutes of networking per person.

😒

This is what TalkTime aims to achieve initially through its distinctive social networking experience without an Internet connection (app under development).
